Infantino must resign immediately
Football belongs to the fans, not sporting institutions; these institutions are put in place to ensure that the flow of the beautiful game remains the same with some innovations. Football is now becoming a money sport, and politicians and economists are seeing this opportunity and venturing into the sport. The lucrative sport has generated billions for small investors who have invested in club football, but a global tournament doesn’t belong to investors. This needs to be boycotted by fans and other footballing institutions.
Infantino’s greed is becoming apparent, and it feels like the hallmarks of Sepp Blatter. The World Cup is not a commercialised entity, but it generates commercial revenue organically. The World Cup was created for the fans and not for investors; this is the reason why, when the World Cup is given to a host nation, everyone, including fans and non-fans, welcomes the idea because this creates a buzz within the country which overcomes any negative influence.
The World Cup brings joy to fans, and taking it away with a token of bribery for national and regional-based institutions is a crime. Infantino does not understand what the World Cup means socially to the fans and even the economic impact it has for the host country. Infantino has based his ideas on the political standpoint, and his ideas are to make the politicians happy, and this is not right.
UEFA has decided to boycott the World Cup investors’ idea, and this will create a distant relationship with FIFA. FIFA has never been an organisation that cares about the fans, as FIFA has made decisions that always affect the fans; a good example is the World Cup ticket prices for a game. A football match shouldn’t cost an average of £700, but it is not affordable. It felt that Infantino and his little minions were trying to make the game appeal to the upper-class people. FIFA needs a lesson on the history of football and to understand that football was created and built by everyone – all the class systems in society.
Infantino will not be selling our World Cup to any investors or to any politicians. If he needs to get into politics, then he can leave the organisation, and we can appoint someone who will support the modern and innovative approach for the fans. Infantino thinks that he can generate more than the $9 billion for investors as he did for the World Cup, but what he doesn’t understand is that the fans generated this income, and fans will not support his bizarre idea.
This needs to be investigated and treated like a crime. Infantino needs to be charged for even having this idea and trying to implement it. This idea will not happen like the Super League did not happen, and all the regional football organisations such as UEFA and CONCAF are against this idea.
