This fight preserves the legacy of British boxing and nothing else

It’s pointless, and nobody cares

As boxing fans, we’re hoping this fight will happen, but right now it’s boring; both fighters have been going back and forth for the last ten years, saying they want to fight.

They cannot get the fight over the line, as a contractual clause always blocks them from signing on the dotted line.  The fights are always blocked, and both fighters trade barbs on social media, but this fight must happen; otherwise, it will destroy British boxing’s legacy.

But now, the fight has been agreed, and the venue has been set; it feels like no one cares about the fight, as it has become stale.

Hearn and Warren know the fight will not sell if they don’t put the WBA super heavyweight belt on the line.

Even with the belt on the line, it still doesn’t feel like the biggest fight in British history. Doubts remain that Zuffa’s intervention might disrupt the fight because of the contracts between the television networks.

The hype for this fight peaked long ago, and people aren’t happy with the spectacle. Fighting fans will still watch, but they’ll care more about who wins because both fighters are past their prime.

Even if Tyson wins, he will not be able to compete with the top five heavyweights at the moment. If Joshua wins the belt, he will vacate the belt as he cannot beat any fighter in the heavyweight division. Both fighters have got their biggest payday ever, and this might be the biggest fight in their career. After December 11, no one will care about the outcome of the fight, and both fighters will need to retire.
