The shortage of candidates
There are not many candidates for the US presidency, and in the last decade, Americans have struggled to elect a president that they actually like. Most Black Americans did not like Obama because they thought that he implemented policies that did not support or help his own community.
Although Obama was seen as the cool president, he never resonated with the whole of America, as some people feel that he was controlled and never had the power to make decisions that could benefit everyone in America. To the global populace, Obama was relatable, and for many Black and mixed heritage people, they could relate to Obama and believed that they could break the glass ceiling in the corporate world. `
Biden did not make any impact as a president apart from sleeping during important summits and meetings. The global population did not relate to Biden, and many felt that he was too old to lead America to the promised land. Trump came in with the MAGA (Make America Great Again) campaign and divided America. Trump’s second term in office shouldn’t have happened, but it looked like Americans had no choice but to elect Trump again.
Americans felt too distanced from Kamala Harris and did not agree with her policies even though some of those policies were not her own. Harris did not fit, as she tried to appeal to both the middle and working classes, but in the end it failed because she did not know what both groups wanted.
AOC is different, and she is someone that Americans, especially Gen Z and millennials, can relate to. She does not have millions in her bank account; she has reported having $66,000 in savings and over $30,000 in student loan debt. These are the things that Americans want to see, and also her campaign to tax the rich will definitely go down well with the working and middle class Americans.
She has influenced women to get into the corporate world by encouraging women to follow their dreams, and this has led to her freezing her eggs so that she can have children at the later stages of her career. AOC should definitely run for president in 2028, and she will be 39 years old when she is inaugurated. If she runs, she will win the presidential race.
