What does the sale of the Lakers mean for the future of the NBA?

The Lakers might need the injection of cash

The deal between Mark Walter and both Kushner and Iger to buy the LA Lakers is the biggest sale of an NBA franchise. The sale of the franchise is $10 billion, and this is the biggest deal in NBA history.

Iger, the former Disney CEO, and Kushner, the son-in-law of Donald Trump, buying a sports team that they do not know shows that money talks. Kushner has also wanted to get involved in sports, and he was part of the FIFA controversy as he wanted to buy a stake in the World Cup. Kushner has always wanted to be part of a sports franchise, and for Iger, this is another challenge to enter another market where he feels he could be challenged.

The ownership of the Buss family has been good for the city of Los Angeles, and the team has won 17 NBA titles under this ownership. The acquisition by Iger and Kushner could bring a dimension to the league where non-basketball people can acquire a franchise the size of the Lakers.

On the other hand, it is not good, as an NBA franchise should be run by someone who plays basketball, and this allows other businessmen and women to think they can acquire a sports team because they have the financial means to do so.

The Lakers fans will not mind if they build a formidable team around Doncic and Reaves and compete for the championship in the next three years.

The leadership of Bob Iger led Disney to be a super media company, and he spearheaded the acquisition of the Marvel Universe and created a multi-billion-dollar franchise.

Iger is a good businessman, and his ideas will transform the Lakers’ business model and direct the front office to build a young team that can challenge for the championship for years to come.
